Surah Rahman 2.02

This Surah, Surah Ar-Rahman, consists of 78 verses and is considered 'makki'. According to Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq (may Allah be pleased with him), reciting this Surah after the dawn prayers on Fridays is highly rewarding. Surah Ar-Rahman has the power to cleanse one's heart from hypocrisy.

On the Day of Judgement, Surah Ar-Rahman will appear in the form of a beautiful human being emanating a pleasant fragrance. Allah will then instruct this being to identify and intercede for those who used to recite this Surah. The being will name them, and with their pardon, Allah will forgive them.

Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq (may Allah be pleased with him) also stated that if a person dies after reciting this Surah, they will be considered a martyr. Writing Surah Ar-Rahman and keeping it in one's possession can dispel difficulties and problems and can also alleviate eye ailments. Inscribing it on the walls of a house can repel household pests. If recited at night, Allah sends an angel to protect the reciter until they wake up, and if recited during the day, an angel guards them until sunset.

In one hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recited Surah Ar-Rahman to the companions, and despite their silence, he explained that he had also recited it to the jinn, who responded favorably. Whenever he recited the verse "And which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?" the jinn would reply, "There is nothing among your bounties that we can deny; all praise belongs to Allah."

In another hadith, Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Everything has an adornment, and the adornment of the Qur'an is Surah Ar-Rahman." (Reference: Imam Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) in Shuab Al Imaan)

Surah Ar-Rahman encourages reflection on the concept of Divine Mercy. It reminds us that life and the countless blessings we enjoy are gifts from Allah that should not be taken for granted. The repetition of the verse "Which is it, of the favors of your Lord, that ye deny?" serves as a reminder to ungrateful disbelievers who deny the truth and oppress believers.

Surah Ar-Rahman beautifully enumerates Allah's blessings, evoking emotions in true believers. It reminds us of the impermanence of worldly possessions and the need to be grateful and strive for the Hereafter. Memorizing Surah Ar-Rahman can bring peace, combat stress and depression, and strengthen our faith as practicing Muslims.
